James River Architects envisions the transforming of traditional design and development into future-thinking sustainable design. We emphasize an integrated design process to impact the aesthetics and functionality of spaces while working creatively within the parameters of budget, schedule, program, client preferences, environmental concerns, life-cycle costs, and other project goals.

History
James River Architects (JRA) was founded by R. Anderson Moberg, AIA in May 2004 with the primary goals of design excellence and client satisfaction. JRA has offered professional design services in architecture, planning, and landscape design. JRA has undertaken hundreds of projects in our firm history. The projects range in size and complexity from small design studies to buildings with construction values in excess of $35 million dollars. Our work includes churches, schools, recreation centers, commercial, medical office buildings, healthcare, retail, restaurants, industrial, adaptive reuse, mixed-use, wellness centers, recreation venues, aircraft hangars, custom residential, and other unique projects. The consistent thread between our projects of any size or type has been our clients’ satisfaction. To date, 85% of our clientele return to JRA for their new projects.

Between 2019-2022, JRA was merged, rebranded, and rejuvenated through an ownership transition in preparation for several more decades of client-centric servicing. J. Mark West, AIA, Principal, and founder Mr. Moberg, have more than 80+ combined years of architectural practice experience with plans to continue to do so well into the future. During their careers they have conscientiously nurtured client relationships and built reputations of trust and confidence through the performance of dedicated, high-quality architectural services. While still focusing on architecture and planning, our work also now integrates 3D BIM and sustainable design foci for the benefit of our clients and projects. While change is an ever-present variable in all businesses, our foundation of design excellence and client satisfaction remains constant.

In 2023, our first full year as a newly combined studio, JRA had its best year of growth in more than 15 years! Our existing and new clientele have been fundamental to our success. We remain grateful and excited to have the opportunity to continue offering a high-level of professional services that have defined us as a company. We excitedly move forward into in an ever-present future with great expectations and a strong resolve to continue vigilantly serving our current and future clients.
