Denbigh Community Center
The Denbigh Community Center (formerly Stoney Run) will fulfill a vital
need for the residents of the northern end of Newport News. Four separate models
were constructed during the design phase as the finer points of the program,
site orientation, and design elements were worked out.
The project includes
a large gymnasium component consisting of two full-size gyms, a large dance
room, a teen center with computer lab, an early childhood development area, a
snack bar, a spray park outside of the main entrance, and several multipurpose
rooms that can accommodate groups of any size up to 500 people. A circular
rotunda with skylight welcomes visitors to the main lobby and provides an
iconic element for the Denbigh Community Center. In addition to this current
phase, the Center has been designed to incorporate a second phase, which will
include a natatorium and locker rooms.
