Peninsula Pediatrics chose James River Architects to design their current facility in the Port Warwick development in Newport News, Virginia. We began the design process with a written program defining the required spaces. The architect then sat with the staff, doctors, nurses and administrators to charrette a functional diagram of relationships and patient flows. A detailed scale model was presented to the client prior to starting construction documents. This process resulted in an efficient and cost effective design. The program included well and sick patient waiting rooms, administration, 12 exam rooms divided on each side of a central nursing station and lab, 5 physician offices, medical records, conferencing and special treatment room. Located in Port Warwick, the building and site plan were required to comply with the architectural review board’s design guidelines.
