Classroom Expansion and Master Plan

Hampton Roads Academy is an independent college preparatory school for grades pre-Kindergarten through 12, serving 600 students on its 50-acre campus in Newport News, Virginia. James River Architects has been selected to design the next phase in the school's expansion; a 19 classroom addition that will house the Upper School as well as provide new offices for Administration and college counseling. The addition continues the look of the 1997 classroom and media center addition, which was also designed by Mr. Moberg, while providing a central element that serves as both a connection to the existing building and a focal point for visitors entering the campus from Oyster Point Road.
Concurrent with the addition project, we have worked with HRA on a master plan to renovate existing spaces and give a unifying look to the campus. To promote the future project phases and encourage community sponsorship and alumni giving, a "Vision Room" has been set aside in the existing administration area. James River Architects designed this to be a showcase for models and drawings of upcoming projects, along with testimonials from alumni and students on the value of their experiences at Hampton Roads Academy.
