At James River Architects, we believe in the power of models. They are an excellent tool for presenting a design concept to a group of people, some of whom may have difficulty understanding architectural drawings. They enable the client to immediately envision their building, generate questions and point out potential concerns. They are extremely useful in fundraising or in educating the public about a project that is currently under construction. Case in point, during the months that the USS Monitor Center at The Mariners' Museum was under construction, our model resided in one of the museum galleries, giving patrons a glimpse of what was to come.

But our models are not something that we create after the design has been finalized. Rather, we use them as a creative tool early in the schematic phase, adapting the design as opportunities or conflicts present themselves. This way of working enables us to provide our consultants with a valuable tool for their work, and aids general contractors in cost estimation.
